A great read for anyone who runs or would like to start in 2020. Peter found his inner self on the wild, spiritual island of Anglesey: the beauty and isolation of Cymyran Beach where he would run all-out often with a following force eight gale. Then lung-testing ascents on sand dunes to strengthen calf and quad muscles. Finally reaching an old golf course and peat-sprung fairways, where he would sprint till breathless. His story is peppered with other aspects of a busy life, loves, highs and lows and a chain of running shops. One of the best recent books about the joy of running where the writer invites the reader into his subconscious which dominated the running success he enjoyed.

When I started to read ‘Running to Catch Up,’ my biggest problem, caused by the fluency of the prose, was I was reading it too quickly.

Whereas, I needed to savour the mindset and resolve some of the surprises, the ‘Where was I?’ I was very impressed by the quality of the author’s writing – polished and professional.

I have just finished reading, ‘Running to Catch Up’ which is excellent and thoroughly enjoyable. A very informative read from the first page to the last. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Elite runners, club runners, marathon runners and contains lots of thrilling, interesting details. Peter Flatman is an open, admirable man.
